Robbie Williams has finally addressed the long-standing rumors surrounding his sexuality, stating that he “wants to be gay” but ultimately is not.
In a recent interview with The Sun, the 48-year-old pop star revealed his thoughts on the persistent speculation about his sexual orientation. While acknowledging that he’s always been open-minded and accepting of others’ identities, Williams emphasized that he himself identifies as straight.
“I want to be gay,” he candidly shared. “I want to be part of a community that I think is amazing and incredible… But unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, I’m not.”
The British singer-songwriter, who has been open about his struggles with addiction and mental health in the past, also highlighted the importance of embracing individuality and supporting those who don’t conform to societal norms.
“I think that’s amazing, and I love all my gay friends, and I’ve got loads of them… But for me, personally, I’m not,” Williams emphasized. “I wish I could be part of that community because I think it’s fantastic.”
The singer has faced ongoing speculation about his sexual orientation throughout his career, with some fans and media outlets suggesting he might be closeted or at least exploring same-sex relationships. However, this latest statement seems to put the rumors to rest.
It’s worth noting that Williams’ comments are not intended to diminish the importance of LGBTQ+ representation or to perpetuate harmful stereotypes. Instead, they reflect his genuine admiration for the community and his desire to be part of it, albeit as a straight man.
