Solana Surpasses Ethereum as Top Ecosystem for New Developers in 2024: Report
According to a recent report by Electric Capital, Solana has surpassed Ethereum as the top blockchain ecosystem for new developers in 2024. This breakthrough marks a significant milestone in the growth of Solana, which has been rapidly expanding its network and attracting a growing number of coders.
As per the report, Solana attracted an impressive 7,625 new developers to its platform over the past year, representing an astonishing 83% increase compared to the previous year. This rapid surge was fueled by strong participation from builders in Asia, where the network ranked as the top platform for new programmers in India and second only to Ethereum in other major markets such as the United States, UK, Canada, and China.
Solana’s success can be attributed to its community-driven ethos and focus on scalability. As a result, it has managed to capture over 81% of all decentralized exchange (DEX) trades and 64% of NFT mint transactions across all chains. Furthermore, Solana’s wallet activity reached an impressive 1.7 million users, a figure that is seven times higher than the next largest chain.
While Solana has surpassed Ethereum as the top ecosystem for new developers, the latter still retains its lead in monthly active developers and code commits. Despite this, Solana’s growth reflects broader diversification trends within the crypto industry. The study found that one-third of all developers now work on multiple chains, a significant increase from less than 10% in 2015.
This shift in developer activity is a testament to the evolution of the blockchain landscape, with many builders seeking alternative platforms for low-fee use cases, decentralized finance (DeFi), and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
