HDMI 2.2 could make its debut at CES next month
In just a few short weeks, we may be seeing the introduction of the next HDMI standard, HDMI 2.2. According to an email sent by the HDMI Forum to press outlets, including Engadget, a new specification will be announced on January 6th in Las Vegas ahead of the official start to CES 2025.
While details are still scarce at this point, it’s been seven years since the introduction of HDMI 2.1, and it seems that the time has come for an update. The new specification is said to “enable a wide range of higher resolutions and refresh rates” and will be supported by a new type of HDMI cable.
One thing that’s clear is that this new standard will bring increased bandwidth. This comes as no surprise, given the rapid advancements in technology over the past few years. HDMI 2.1 was recently updated to version 2.1b in 2023, supporting bandwidths of up to 48Gbps and resolutions up to 10K.
It’s worth noting that it’s been a bit of a wait since the last major update, and many are likely eager to see what improvements HDMI 2.2 will bring. As CES approaches, we’ll be sure to keep our readers updated on all the latest announcements as they happen.
