The Framework Laptop 16 just got a modular gadget that enables quadruple SSDs
In a move that is sure to delight power users and storage enthusiasts alike, Framework has announced the release of its long-awaited Dual M.2 Adapter for the Framework Laptop 16. This innovative new module allows users to add an additional two M.2 slots to the laptop’s expansion bay, effectively doubling the device’s overall SSD storage capacity.
As outlined in the company’s blog post, the Dual M.2 Adapter is fully compatible with the existing M.2 modules available for the Framework Laptop 16. This means that users can now install a grand total of four M.2 modules, utilizing PCIe 4.0 lanes to ensure maximum performance and efficiency.
This significant upgrade has the potential to revolutionize the way we think about laptop storage. With current SSD capacities topping out at around 8TB for larger M.2 modules, this means that users can now theoretically carry up to an astonishing 26TB of data on a single device. To put this into perspective, that’s equivalent to storing over 5,500 standard DVDs worth of content or 12 years’ worth of music streaming.
For those who have already invested in the Framework Laptop 16’s Radeon RX 7700S discrete graphics card upgrade, there is some good news – although you won’t be able to take advantage of this new module without swapping out the existing GPU, the process should still be relatively quick and easy.
