YouTube has announced that it will now allow its creators to choose whether or not third-party companies can train their AI models using the content uploaded to the platform. This new feature is aimed at giving creators more control over how their videos are used by other parties, a move that comes in response to growing concerns about unauthorized use of creator content.
With this new setting, YouTube creators will have the ability to opt into allowing specific third-party companies to train AI models on their content, or they can select an option to deny access to all third-party companies. The list of approved companies includes 18 organizations that have been pre-authorized by YouTube, including AI21 Labs, Adobe, Amazon, Anthropic, Apple, ByteDance, Cohere, IBM, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, OpenAI, Perplexity, Pika Labs, Runway, Stability AI, and xAI.
YouTube creators will be able to access this new feature through the YouTube Studio dashboard. They can select whether or not they allow specific third-party companies to train AI models on their content by accessing a list of authorized companies or selecting an option that denies access to all third-party companies.
