Tesla offers free Supercharging for Model S with a catch
Tesla is attempting to boost its sales of the Model S by offering free Supercharging for the vehicles at the end of the year. However, there is a significant caveat attached to this perk.
The electric vehicle manufacturer has brought back the offer it initially abandoned in 2018, but only for some Tesla Model S cars. This comes as the demand for the pricey EV has been steadily decreasing over the years. In Q2, Tesla reportedly sold around 12,000 to 13,000 units of the Model S, a drop of roughly 31-37% year-over-year.
Additionally, Tesla’s price increase for the Model S by $5,000 may not be seen as a positive move by potential buyers. The all-wheel drive version of the car now starts at $79,990, while the Plaid model begins at $94,990.
The free Supercharging offer comes with some limitations, including that it can only be used for vehicles purchased during this promotional period and is non-transferable. This means that if you buy a Model S and then sell it, the free charging perk does not follow the vehicle to its new owner.
Another important restriction is that taxi, ride-hail, and delivery drivers are excluded from taking advantage of the offer.
