Apple iPhone 17: All-New Design Coming, Leak Claims
Rumors are swirling around the upcoming iPhone 17 series, suggesting a drastic change in design. According to a recent leak, the new devices will feature an all-new camera arrangement, placing the lenses horizontally.
The report comes from Digital Chat Station, a reputable Weibo user with a history of accurate predictions. This supposed overhaul would mark a significant departure from the traditional vertical placement seen on iPhone 16 and earlier models.
While the idea may seem exciting, I remain skeptical about this potential design shift. Apple has traditionally been hesitant to change its design language within a single year, with notable exceptions being the very first iPhone. The company rarely ditches a design just one year after an overhaul.
Moreover, the iPhone 16’s camera arrangement was specifically designed to enable spatial video recording when held in landscape orientation, which might be compromised by adopting a horizontal placement. Software and lens adjustments could potentially rectify this issue, but it would require significant changes.
Additionally, if the report is accurate that multiple iPhone models will feature this new design, Apple may want to differentiate itself from other manufacturers rather than following the pack.
