‘Become Anyone’ Mask: Put On Endless Faces With 3,000 LEDs
Imagine slipping on a mask that can project any face, or pattern, you want. Sean Hodgins, an Ontario-based mechanical engineer and maker, has taken the concept to a whole new level by creating Become Anyone 2.0, a wearable display capable of displaying an almost endless array of faces.
Hodgins’ initial version from five years ago utilized a small projector mounted on the end of a pole attached to the mask’s chin that beams images onto the surface. However, he has since updated his design to incorporate 3,000 LEDs into the mask itself, allowing for dynamic and high-resolution projections.
The new design is more portable and capable of producing vividly colored psychedelic animations or even mimicking a character from the original Doom video game. The LED-equipped mask, which Hodgins has shared on collaborative developer platform GitHub, has already garnered widespread attention due to its sheer magnitude and innovative technology.
While it’s unlikely that this device will become mainstream anytime soon, it showcases Hodgins’ impressive engineering skills and potential for creative expression.
