Republican Demands Info From State Department on Delayed Afghanistan Flights
Republican lawmakers are demanding more information from the State Department regarding allegations of delayed evacuation flights during the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan last year.
During a hearing, Representative Thomas Massie claimed that American citizens and Afghan allies were blocked by the US government from leaving Afghanistan despite having clearance to do so. He accused the Biden administration of prioritizing the Taliban takeover over the safety of American citizens.
“Every single minute counts when you’re trying to get people out of a war zone,” Massie said. “And yet, we have these emails and photographs that show that the US government was actively blocking their exit.”
He called on Blinken to provide all relevant communications regarding the matter, including any instructions or guidance given to embassy personnel.
“State Department officials should be forthcoming about what happened at the Mazar-i-Sharif airfield,” Massie said.
