GM and ChargePoint Plan to Install Hundreds of Fast EV Chargers by End of 2025
General Motors (GM) has announced a new partnership with ChargePoint, a leading electric vehicle charging company, to deploy a large-scale network of ultra-fast EV charging stations across the United States. The ambitious plan aims to have hundreds of fast-charging ports installed by the end of 2025.
As part of this collaboration, GM will be using ChargePoint’s Omni Port technology, which is capable of supporting charge speeds of up to 500kW. This cutting-edge solution ensures seamless charging for all vehicles, regardless of their manufacturer or charging port type, eliminating the need for adapters.
The new stations will be branded under the GM Energy banner and strategically located across the country. According to the company’s statements, these installations are expected to take place rapidly, with locations deployed by the end of 2025. The partnership is seen as a significant move in accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles, providing EV drivers with convenient and reliable access to ultra-fast charging.
In addition to this collaboration, GM has already made substantial progress in this area through its ongoing partnership with EVgo, which has successfully installed over 2,000 DC fast chargers across the US. Furthermore, the automaker is actively involved in other EV charging initiatives, including partnerships with Flying J and Pilot truck stops as well as participation in the Ionna consortium alongside major players such as Hyundai, Kia, BMW, and Stellantis.
This latest development demonstrates GM’s commitment to creating a comprehensive network of charging infrastructure that supports the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. As the industry continues to evolve and adapt, it is exciting to see innovative solutions like this emerge to address the needs of EV owners and accelerate the transition to sustainable transportation options.
