Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Tomiwabold Olajide, has taken to social media to address a critical misconception regarding the potential for increased transaction per second (TPS) on the Ripple blockchain. The CTO stressed that higher TPS levels might lead to higher costs for bandwidth, storage, and computing power for all participants.
Increased TPS could result in an increase in the overall cost of running a node, thereby discouraging some individuals from participating in the network. A lower node count would subsequently reduce decentralization, which is a fundamental principle of blockchain technology.
In essence, while a higher TPS may seem beneficial, it poses significant challenges for the entire ecosystem, including higher costs and potentially fewer participants.
As the blockchain space continues to evolve, we can expect more insights from Ripple’s CTO and other experts.
