Apple has started removing the iPhone SE, iPhone 14, and iPhone 14 Plus from its online store in Switzerland, a week ahead of the European Union’s (EU) deadline to sell only USB-C supported devices. According to reports, the Swiss Apple Store is currently displaying that these configurations are “currently unavailable.”
The move comes as the EU prepares to enforce new regulations requiring all smartphones sold within the region to feature USB-C ports instead of Apple’s proprietary Lightning port. The regulation takes effect on December 28th.
The decision by Apple to remove these devices from its Swiss online store may not be a surprise, given that the company has already transitioned to USB-C with the release of the iPhone 15 in 2023. It is unclear whether this move will be extended to other EU countries, although it seems likely as more and more countries adopt the new standards.
It’s worth noting that these devices are still available for purchase on Apple’s online stores in other EU countries such as France and Spain at this time.
