Trailer: ‘Rule Breakers’ will bring Afghanistan’s first-ever girls’ robotics team to the big screen on March 7
The highly anticipated film, Rule Breakers, has finally dropped its trailer, and it promises to be an incredible true story of courage and determination. The movie tells the tale of Afghanistan’s first-ever all-girls robotics team, who made headlines worldwide in 2017 when they were denied member visas by the United States while attempting to compete at the First Global Challenge international robotics competition.
The film is based on a remarkable true story that highlights the struggles faced by young girls and women in Afghanistan. Despite the country’s efforts to promote gender equality and education, the Taliban’s return to power in 2021 reversed years of progress, forcing many women to flee their homes for their own safety and the right to pursue their dreams.
The movie stars Nikohl Boosheri as tech entrepreneur and Digital Citizen Fund founder Roya Mahboob, who worked tirelessly to bring together a team of talented young girls to participate in the competition. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for her role in Fleabag, also joins the cast.
Directed by two-time Academy Award winner Bill Guttentag, Rule Breakers is set to hit theaters on March 7, 2025, and the trailer promises an inspiring and powerful portrayal of these remarkable young women.
