Ubisoft quietly squeezes out another NFT game featuring Rayman, Blood Dragon
Gaming enthusiasts have been left scratching their heads once again as Ubisoft has released yet another Web3-based game, this time featuring beloved characters from the Rayman and Blood Dragon series. Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. is an arena-style bloodsport where players compete for kills in a neon-lit future world inspired by Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon’s animated series spinoff.
The game, which has been met with lukewarm reception at best, offers little to no excitement as it essentially amounts to the most basic top-down shooter imaginable. The catch? Players will need to obtain a Niji Warrior NFT in order to participate, and if they miss out on the initial free offering of 10,000 NFTs, they’ll be forced to shell out a minimum of $14.38 (0.0022 in ethereum) just to get in on the action.
But wait, there’s more! Rayman, a character that hasn’t seen a proper new adventure in years, is relegated to serving as the announcer for these bloodthirsty battles. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, knowing that players won’t even be able to play as the iconic hero himself.
Despite the lackluster response from fans and critics alike, there is one silver lining: it’s incredibly easy to climb the leaderboard. According to journalist Stephen Totilo, he managed to secure a top 10 spot on the global rankings without exerting much effort at all – likely due to the extremely low number of players (less than 100) participating.
This isn’t the first time Ubisoft has attempted to cash in on the NFT craze that never quite took off. The company previously released Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, a tactical RPG where players could spend up to $6,300 on digital collectibles. It seems clear that Ubisoft is hell-bent on trying to revive the dying embers of this fad.
What do you think? Will you be giving Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. a chance, or will you be sticking to more traditional gaming experiences?
