UFC And Dana White Make Killer No. 1 Contender Fight
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has announced a massive showdown between Brandon Royval and Manel Kape on March 1, with the winner set to challenge current flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja for the title. The highly anticipated match is expected to take place at the UFC Apex.
Kape’s path to this fight was paved after his impressive performance in his last bout, where he defeated Bruno Silva via a third-round TKO. Following the win, Kape passionately pleaded with UFC President Dana White for a shot at the championship, and it seems that his appeal has been granted. The No. 1 contender’s match is set to be the main event of the March 1 UFC Fight Night.
Royval has also had a strong run in recent times, solidifying his spot as the top contender after defeating Tatsuro Taira in October. His victory over the Japanese newcomer ensured that Alexandre Pantoja wouldn’t face Asakura for the title, paving the way for Kai to challenge the champion instead.
Pantoja has dominated the current crop of flyweight contenders, boasting an impressive record against top-ranked opponents including Royval and Kape himself. He successfully defended his title at UFC 310 in Las Vegas on December 7, putting away Asakura with ease.
With Pantoja’s dominance, the UFC had to look deeper into its rankings to find potential challengers for the title. The current flyweight champion has even defeated both Kape and Royval in their previous encounters.
The loser of this highly anticipated match will likely face either No. 4 Kai Kara France, No. 8 Asu Almabayev, or the winner of another upcoming fight, securing a spot at the top of the rankings.
Stay tuned for further updates on this event, including any additional fights that may be added to the March 1 UFC Fight Night card.
