According to new data released by Google Trends, Americans have spoken – and their top Christmas cookie search is…
The data shows that various states had different preferences when it comes to holiday treats. For instance, Floridians were most interested in searching for “oatmeal raisin” cookies, a surprise to many who would have expected more exotic or innovative flavors.
In other parts of the country, gingerbread proved popular on both coasts, with Maine, New Hampshire and Oregon all showing interest in this classic holiday treat.
Meanwhile, California residents were most intrigued by Buche de Noel, or yule log cookies. The anise-flavored Italian Christmas cookies, often made with a hint of citrus and spices, took top spot in seven states, ranging from the mid-Atlantic to Wyoming.
What was perhaps more unexpected was that New Yorkers, who have one of the largest populations of Italian Americans, did not search for these cookies. Instead, they opted for Greek Christmas cookies, making this state the only one where it held the top spot.
The data also showed a strong preference for shortcuts in Colorado, with residents seeking out “cake mix Christmas cookie” recipes that require only three ingredients: cake mix, oil and eggs.
It’s worth noting that Google Trends released a corresponding map showcasing America’s favorite pie varieties – apple, pecan and pumpkin.
