Huawei FreeBuds Pro 4: The Earbuds For Audiophiles With Huawei Phones
The latest offering from Huawei, the FreeBuds Pro 4, sets a new benchmark in the earbuds market. By achieving 48kHz audio at 24 bit resolution, these wireless earbuds have set an industry first. However, to unlock this feature, users will need to pair them with the company’s latest foldable phone, the Mate X6.
While most people may not be audiophiles and are satisfied with regular music streaming quality, there is a notable 5% of enthusiasts who prioritize lossless audio and may find these earbuds an attractive option. The caveat being that they must have the Mate X6 to enjoy the full benefits.
The earbud’s design maintains the blocky stem format from previous models, but this comes at the cost of having more microphones (four in each bud) and a dynamic 11mm driver. While some may find the stems unsightly, their increased size allows for better audio quality and ease of control via touch-sensitive panels.
The pairing process is straightforward, with users simply needing to connect the earbuds to their device. Huawei also offers a companion app that allows customization of EQ and touch controls, but it’s not necessary for normal usage.
In terms of performance, the FreeBuds Pro 4 delivers full and lively audio with noticeable bass kick when streaming regular music. While some may be able to notice a difference between standard and lossless audio tracks, I must admit that as an average listener, I couldn’t tell the significant difference. Nevertheless, this feature can make all the difference for audiophiles.
One of the standout features is the active noise cancelation, which is up there with the best in the industry. The four microphones on each bud work in tandem to silence external sounds, and it’s impressive. This level of ANC can be compared to top-tier earbuds like AirPods Pro 2 and Bose Ultra.
In addition to superior sound quality, the FreeBuds Pro 4 also features a bone conduction microphone that picks up voice vibrations from the skull, rather than relying on external audio. This means users can make calls in extremely loud environments without sacrificing clarity.
The earbuds’ battery life is also commendable, lasting approximately 6.5 hours of playtime with four additional charges from the case, totaling over 30 hours of listening time. This longevity would be particularly useful for those who prioritize audio quality and need to stay connected on-the-go.
What’s perhaps most impressive about these earbuds is their affordability. Priced at around $210, they undercut competitors Samsung and Apple by a significant margin while still offering comparable performance. If you’re an audiophile or simply seeking exceptional sound quality from your Huawei device, the FreeBuds Pro 4 deserves consideration.
