Sky Rolls Out Latest Feature Upgrade For Its Glass TVs And Stream Boxes — Including AirPlay Support
Sky has unveiled a slew of innovative new features and upgrades to its Entertainment OS, the proprietary operating system powering its line of Sky Glass TVs and Sky Stream devices. Among the most significant updates is the addition of Apple AirPlay support for Sky Glass TVs.
Now, Sky Glass users will be able to effortlessly stream videos, photos, music, and more from their iPhones, iPads, or Mac computers. This move brings Sky Glass in line with numerous other premium TV brands that have long offered seamless integration with Apple devices.
In a bid to further enhance the viewing experience for subscribers, Sky has also introduced an improved Skip Ads feature. For users who opt-in to this service (priced at £5 per month), a dedicated button can be used to expedite the ad-skipping process, reducing wait times and increasing overall satisfaction with the service.
Another highly anticipated update has been added to both Sky Glass and Stream platforms: the “Next Episode” feature. Upon the conclusion of an episode, users will now have the option to automatically start playing the subsequent installment without needing to manually navigate menus or utilize the search function.
The streaming giant has also introduced a new capability that enables subscribers to add actors to their personalized playlist, accessible through the ‘People’ rail in their Entertainment OS menu. This feature allows for instant access to films and shows featuring a preferred actor, should they be available on Sky’s service.
Furthermore, Sky has revamped its Favorite Channel system. Users can now assign favorite channels to their home screen on both Sky Glass and Stream devices, allocating each channel a unique number that will appear on the remote control. Alternatively, users may simply tap “Refresh” and their favorites list will automatically update with channels they have been viewing most frequently.
In another move designed to boost user engagement and personalization, Sky has introduced new avatar options for its profiles. These avatars can be chosen by individual household members, offering a more extensive range of characters for subscribers to associate with their profiles. Previously available kid-friendly options, such as Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig, have been joined by more “grown-up” choices, including Jamie Redknapp from A League Of Their Own and Nicolas Galitzine from Mary & George.
Finally, Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers will now be able to stream music in high-definition (HD) quality through the Amazon Music app on Sky Glass and Stream devices. This represents a significant upgrade from the previously available standard definition streams.
Overall, these upgrades demonstrate Sky’s commitment to constantly improving and refining its offerings to better meet the evolving needs of its audience.
