Trump Taps Sriram Krishnan as White House AI Policy Advisor
Monday, December 23, 2024
Donald Trump has appointed Indian-American entrepreneur and venture capitalist Sriram Krishnan as senior policy advisor for artificial intelligence at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. This development comes as nations vie for dominance in artificial intelligence capabilities.
Krishnan brings with him a wealth of experience, having recently resigned from his position as general partner at Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and possessing technical expertise and industry knowledge. His career began at Microsoft, where he was a founding member of the Windows Azure team, laying the groundwork for cloud computing infrastructure that now supports many AI applications.
In this new role, Krishnan will collaborate closely with David Sacks, who has been recently named as the administration’s crypto and AI czar. This pairing suggests a coordinated approach to technology policy, combining Sacks’ broad oversight with Krishnan’s deep technical understanding. Together, they will work to shape and coordinate AI policy across government agencies, involving direct engagement with the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
Trump emphasized the importance of maintaining American technological leadership while announcing the appointment. The selection of Krishnan, known for his close ties to tech industry leaders, including Elon Musk, who co-leads Trump’s department of government efficiency, indicates a strategy of incorporating Silicon Valley expertise into government policy-making.
Krishnan expressed enthusiasm about his new role, stating on Twitter, “I’m honored to be able to serve our country and ensure continued American leadership in AI working closely with @DavidSacks. Thank you @realDonaldTrump for this opportunity.”
