Watch Boston Dynamics’ Electric Atlas Do a Backflip
In a surprising holiday treat, Boston Dynamics has unveiled a video showcasing their impressive new robot, the electric Atlas, performing a stunning backflip. The incredible feat occurs roughly 13 minutes into the newly released footage.
While it’s true that a robot executing a backflip isn’t necessarily more complicated than walking, roboticists often prioritize functional tasks such as locomotion over acrobatic feats. Nevertheless, Boston Dynamics’ latest creation has proven to be remarkably robust and agile.
The new electric Atlas is following in the footsteps of its hydraulic predecessor, which showcased similar abilities back in 2017. Recently, Unitree’s humanoid robot has also demonstrated its gymnastics capabilities, further highlighting the rapid advancements being made in robotics.
It’s worth noting that the electric Atlas managed to keep its Santa hat securely fastened throughout the entire performance, adding a dash of festive flair to this impressive display.
