Scammers target Crypto users with fake Pudgy Penguin Website disguised in Google Ads
A new wave of scams has hit the crypto community, with scammers targeting unsuspecting users by disguising a fake Pudgy Penguin website within Google Ads. The malicious advertisement was designed to detect and redirect users who have cryptocurrency wallets, allowing the thieves to steal sensitive information or gain unauthorized access to funds.
According to blockchain security experts Scam Sniffers, the scheme involves embedding a suspicious Java script code in a Google advert that checks if an online user has a crypto wallet. If the code detects a wallet, the user is redirected to a fake Pudgy Penguins Website where their personal information and login details can be stolen by the scammers.

The scammers’ tactics are particularly concerning as it involves compromising Google Ads, a trusted platform for online advertising. This revelation raises questions about the security of Google’s ad network and its ability to prevent malicious activities.
Pudgy Penguins is a blockchain-based collection of digital artwork composed of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) launched on the Ethereum blockchain in August 2021. The organization was formed by a cohort of university students and later acquired by Luca Schnetzler for a sum of 750 ETH, equivalent to $2.5 million.
Experts advise crypto users to exercise extreme caution when interacting with online advertisements, especially those related to cryptocurrency and NFTs. It is crucial to verify the authenticity of websites and ads before providing any sensitive information or making transactions.
To avoid falling victim to this scam, Scam Sniffers recommend that users always check the URL address of Web 3 sites they visit, install Ad blockers, or consider using a separate Web browser for all Web 3 activities.
