In a stark revelation, security experts at Lookout have released their Q3 2024 Mobile Threat Landscape Report, shedding light on the alarming fact that iOS devices are more exposed to phishing attacks than their Android counterparts. This finding is based on an unprecedented analysis of 220 million devices and 360 million apps, along with “billions of web items.”
According to the report, a staggering 18.4% of iOS devices were targeted by threat actors in the first three quarters of 2024, whereas only 11.4% of Android devices faced similar attacks during the same period. This discrepancy is particularly concerning, as it suggests that Apple’s ecosystem may be more vulnerable to phishing threats.
It appears that, quite simply, there are more iOS devices being targeted by malicious actors due to their prevalence in enterprise environments. Lookout discovered that over two times the number of iOS devices were present in these settings compared to Android devices. This increased exposure could indeed contribute to the higher rate of attacks on Apple’s mobile platform.
Furthermore, a staggering 19% of enterprise iOS devices were exposed to at least one mobile phishing attack throughout the first three quarters of 2024, whereas only 10.9% of enterprise Android devices faced similar threats during this time period.
