Jonathan Turley: Biden’s veto of Judges Act makes him a craven partisan, not a Framer
In his latest move, President Joe Biden has demonstrated that he is more committed to raw political power than the integrity of our judicial system. His veto of the Judicial Appointments and Judicial Reform Act, which would have increased the number of judges on federal courts, is a cynical and self-serving decision.
It’s no secret that I have been critical of President Biden in the past for his attempts to circumvent the Constitution and undermine our democratic institutions. But this latest move takes the cake. By vetoing the Judges Act, Biden has once again demonstrated that he is more interested in partisan gain than in serving the public interest.
Let me be clear: as a scholar of constitutional law, I do not agree with the Founders’ approach to judicial appointments. In fact, I have argued in my book “The Indispensable Right” that their views on this issue were often at odds with modern conceptions of fairness and justice.
