Bluesky starts testing a trending topics feature
Social network Bluesky has announced the launch of its trending topics feature in beta. The new feature is currently available to users across both desktop and mobile apps.
On the desktop version, users will be able to view trending topics on the right sidebar, while on the mobile app, users can access it by tapping on the search button. Notably, this feature is only available in English at present.
Bluesky has also added a functionality that carries over muted words from user profiles to the trending topics. This means that if you have previously added a word or phrase to your muted list, it will not appear in the trending topics.
As an update, Bluesky has stressed that this is just the initial version of the feature and they plan to improve it further down the line.
Interestingly, Bluesky’s introduction of this feature follows similar implementations by other social media platforms. Threads, a rival social network, had already started rolling out trending topics to all U.S. users in March and began testing the feature in Japan in October. However, Bluesky is making this available globally across all regions.
Bluesky has over 25 million users worldwide and continues to grow as a prominent player in the social media space.
The company also emphasized that users have the option to disable trending topics by going to Settings > Content and Media and then unchecking the “Enable trending topics” option.
