Apple Announces New Special-Edition AirTag—But You Can’t Buy It
Just a day into the new year and Apple is already making waves in the tech world. In a surprise move, the company has announced a brand-new special-edition AirTag to celebrate the Japanese New Year, specifically designed for the Japanese market.
However, there’s a catch – these limited-edition tags won’t be available for purchase separately. Instead, they will only be bundled with the purchase of select iPhones in Japan. The promotion runs from January 2nd to January 5th and includes three iPhone models: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and iPhone SE.
The AirTag itself is a lovely representation of this year’s Chinese zodiac animal – a snake – and features an adorable Animoji design. This is the fourth consecutive special-edition AirTag, following last year’s rabbit, 2022’s tiger, and 2023’s dragon designs.
What sets this promotion apart from previous years is its extended duration. Instead of a mere two-day window as seen in 2022, Apple has decided to offer this bundle deal for four whole days, giving customers more time to make their purchases.
In addition to the AirTag itself, the promotion also includes gift cards ranging in value from ¥6,000 ($38) up to ¥30,000 ($190). The selection of devices and accessories available with these gift cards is impressive, considering the variety and range.
