The 12 Best Gadgets We Reviewed This Year
As the year comes to a close, it’s time for us to reflect on the devices and products we’ve had the chance to review. While there have been some duds (more on those later), there were plenty of standout gadgets that wowed us with their innovation, design, or sheer awesomeness.
Let me start by saying that even the best device can’t avoid a score of 91. That honor goes to the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14, which impressed our reviewer Sam with its “pound for pound and dollar for dollar” value. Yes, it has some drawbacks like soldered-in RAM and Armoury Crate app, but overall, it’s an incredible gaming laptop.
Another close contender is the reMarkable Paper Pro, which brought back waves of nostalgia with its e-paper tablet that lets you write longhand without the need for a laptop or phone. It’s not cheap at $580, but Daniel Cooper found it to be a capable writing device and a welcome respite from our digital lives.
Now, onto the other devices we reviewed this year. There were plenty of them, so here are some honorable mentions:
* DJI Osmo Pocket 3
* Analogue Duo
* Fujifilm X100 VI
* iPad Air (2024)
These products all earned a score of at least 90 points.
And let’s not forget the devices that received high praise but didn’t quite make our top 12 list. These include:
* iPhone 16 Pro
* base iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus
* Apple Watch Series 10
* NVIDIA’s RTX 4070 Super graphics card
* Meta Quest 3S headset
* Ninja’s Creami ice-cream maker
On the other end of the spectrum, unfortunately, there were some products that didn’t quite live up to their promise. We reviewed a few devices that scored below 60 points, which is an embarrassment for any product.
One such device was the Rabbit R1, which promised AI-powered assistance but failed to deliver. It not only couldn’t execute tasks correctly but also overheated and had issues with returning orders due to its own design flaws. No one should have to go through that kind of frustration when spending money on a device.
Another product that didn’t quite cut it was the Humane AI Pin, which tried too hard to be revolutionary and ended up being just plain annoying. It cost $700, was finicky, overheated, and even led to a recall for its charging case due to fire hazard concerns. Needless to say, we won’t miss these gadgets anytime soon.
That’s all the time I have for now.
