Title: I was Whitney Houston’s Bodyguard… And Now I’m Spilling All My Secrets
As a former cop, I’ve had my fair share of thrilling experiences. But none as surreal as being Whitney Houston’s bodyguard for several years in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Yes, you heard that right – this British ex-cop got to be Whitney’s personal security detail!
During our time together, I was privileged enough to witness some of the most incredible moments of her life, from sold-out concerts to impromptu performances at royal gatherings (yes, you read that correctly). But let me tell you, it wasn’t all glitz and glamour. There were times when my heart ached for this global superstar who struggled with so much more than just fame.
I recall one particularly unforgettable night where Whitney laid her head on my shoulder during an intimate moment in the aftermath of a concert. In that instant, I was tempted to give up everything – including my badge and gun – to be there for her, no matter what. But alas, duty called, and I had to keep my professional distance.
Fast-forward to today, and I’m still shaken by the memories we shared. There’s one regret that still haunts me: not being able to protect her from herself when it mattered most. The pain of her passing in 2012 still feels like yesterday.
Now, you might be thinking, “Wait a minute! Didn’t Kevin Costner play your role in that biopic?” Ah, yes! You’re spot on! (laughs) I mean, I can’t deny the eerie resemblance between his portrayal and my own experiences. Who knew, though, that our paths would cross 20 years later? It’s surreal, to say the least.
In hindsight, I wish I could’ve shared more of these behind-the-scenes tales with Whitney herself before she left us too soon. Alas, life’s got a way of teaching us hard lessons – even in death.
Today, I’m opening up about my time with Whitney as a means of honoring her legacy and paying homage to the unbreakable bond we shared.
