The Batman 2 is Delayed to 2027, But Mickey 17’s Release Date is Moving Up
Warner Bros. has made a significant announcement regarding the highly anticipated sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Unfortunately for fans of the DC franchise, The Batman Part II will no longer be arriving in theaters on October 2nd, 2026. Instead, it has been delayed to October 1st, 2027.
The delay comes as Warner Bros. has opted to fill the vacated slot with an unnamed Tom Cruise-starring film, directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu and scheduled for release on October 2nd, 2026. The move is likely a strategic one, considering the immense popularity of Cruise’s previous films.
On the bright side, fans of another highly anticipated project can rejoice as Bong Joon-Ho’s Mickey 17 has seen its release date accelerated to March 7th, 2025. This comes after initial delays caused the film’s original 2024 release to slip.
Mickey 17 boasts an all-star cast, featuring Robert Pattinson, who also plays Bruce Wayne in The Batman Part II, alongside Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, and Thomas Turgoose. The film is directly inspired by Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7, which follows a willingly disposable employee as he navigates multiple doors of death.
In an unexpected move, Warner Bros. has reportedly swapped its release date with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, which will now open on April 18th, to give Mickey 17 more time to shine on IMAX screens.
It seems that The Batman fans will have to wait a bit longer for the sequel, but those eagerly anticipating Mickey 17 can rejoice at the news of an earlier release date.
