Flight Passenger Calls Out Fellow Flyers for Bad Habit, Shares Fix for Problem
A recent incident on a flight has sparked outrage and frustration among passengers over the persistent issue of littering on planes. A traveler took to Reddit to share their experience and propose a solution to this widespread problem.
According to the post, a passenger noticed that someone had left a newspaper in the seatback pocket, which is not an uncommon sight. The Redditor’s colleague, who was tasked with collecting trash during disembarkation, shared the story of how they encountered this same individual again later on.
In an attempt to grab his newspaper, which he claimed he wanted to keep, the passenger allegedly abandoned it at the jetway and through the terminal while screaming about the importance of keeping it. This passive-aggressive behavior sparked a heated debate among commenters.
A Texas-based travel industry expert Gary Leff added fuel to the fire by emphasizing that airlines often don’t have sufficient time to clean between flights due to increased efficiency requirements, which can contribute to the problem.
Leff urged passengers to do their part in maintaining cleanliness by actively participating in trash collection. He suggested that airlines adopt a system where a dedicated bag for collecting trash is passed around during the flight like it’s done with collections at church.
“The airlines ‘need to pass a trash collection around like they do the money collection at church – for the same reason,” Leff said, “Guilt people into filling it up as it passes by. Problem solved.”
Passengers have been called upon to take responsibility for their actions and respect the basic principles of social etiquette.
As the conversation continues, it appears that some passengers are still not willing to change their ways.
