Hertz has been contacting people who are currently renting electric vehicles (EVs) with attractive offers to purchase the vehicle at a discounted price. According to reports from The Verge and Reddit, these offers are quite enticing.
One of the reported offers was for a 2023 Chevy Bolt at $18,442, while another renter was offered a 2023 Tesla Model 3 with only 30,000 miles on it for $17,913. Additionally, Hertz is also providing a limited 12-month, 12,000-mile powertrain warranty and a buy-back option within seven days.
It’s worth noting that these offers come as no surprise, given the company’s recent announcement to sell off a third of its EV fleet due to lower demand and higher-than-expected repair costs. This move was made nearly a year after Hertz initially stated it would be selling off some of its vehicles.
As a result of this accelerated sell-off, Hertz reported $937 million in vehicle depreciation during the third quarter, a significant increase compared to the same period last year. Furthermore, the company expects depreciation per unit to normalize to under $300 by the end of 2025.
For those interested in purchasing an affordable EV, these offers from Hertz could be a fantastic opportunity.
