Social Media Craze for Teen Skincare Reaches “Crisis Point”, Dermatologist Warns
The dermatologist is sounding the alarm about the alarming rise in teenage skincare issues caused by social media influencers.
In an interview, she expressed her deep concern over the situation: “As a dermatologist, I’m seeing it firsthand – teens are using products without any expertise or knowledge of their skin types. It’s a crisis point.”
The doctor revealed that she has had to treat children as young as 8 years old for using skincare products that were completely unsuitable for their age and skin condition.
According to the expert, this issue is exacerbated by the sheer volume of false information and misinformation being spread on social media platforms.
“Teenagers are bombarded with advertisements claiming certain products will give them flawless skin overnight. They don’t know what’s real and what isn’t,” she emphasized.
She highlighted a recent instance where a young patient came in for treatment after using an acne cream meant for adults, which only exacerbated the problem.
“The child was left with severe skin irritation and scarring. It’s heartbreaking to see children suffer due to the irresponsible marketing of skincare products,” the dermatologist said, visibly distressed by the situation.
She urged parents to monitor their children’s social media activity closely and to avoid purchasing skincare products for them without consulting a medical professional first.
In response to the alarming trend, many are calling on influencers in the beauty industry to take responsibility for promoting healthy skincare practices.
