An Alaska woman has been convicted of murdering her court-appointed supervisor, authorities announced.
According to the state’s Department of Law, 57-year-old Keith Huss was found dead at a rest area in Hope, Alaska on September 29, 2020. The investigation revealed that he had been shot four times with a .45-caliber pistol and had also been struck by a vehicle.
Further examination showed that Huss had been appointed to be the defendant’s third-party custodian as part of her bail conditions. He was last seen picking up the defendant, Sarah Dayan, from jail and planning to drive to Anchorage for work at his food truck.
Following an extensive investigation and arrest, Dayan was charged with multiple crimes. In a dramatic turn of events, a jury has now convicted her of first- and second-degree murder, as well as other offenses.
As a result of the conviction, Sarah Dayan is being held without bail pending sentencing. She faces a possible sentence ranging from 15 to 99 years in prison.
The lead investigator on the case, Sgt. Mark Pearson, worked closely with Seward police in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
