The recent report from SlashNext highlights a staggering 76% increase in phishing attacks targeting Gmail users. This alarming trend is no surprise, given the rise of advanced exploit kits and social engineering tactics. As a result, it’s crucial to stay vigilant about email-based threats.
In this context, I would like to emphasize the importance of Google’s Advanced Protection Program (APP). By requiring users to employ passkeys or hardware security keys for verification and sign-in purposes, APP provides unparalleled phishing resistance. This means that even if attackers have your username and password, they won’t be able to gain unauthorized access without possession of the corresponding passkey.
Furthermore, APP enhances Google’s Chrome safe browsing by conducting more stringent checks before each download. Furthermore, it ensures that only verified store apps can be installed on devices, and it only allows verified third-party apps to access your Google account data with your explicit permission.
In light of this report, I strongly recommend that every Gmail user enroll in the Advanced Protection Program as soon as possible.
