Humans should be aware of the ethical implications of AI decisions and ready to intervene when concerns arise. Professor Jeremy Rambarran emphasizes the importance of fostering a culture of collaboration between humans and AI systems. This includes encouraging interdisciplinary teams composed of domain experts, data scientists, and AI engineers to work together to solve complex problems effectively.
In order for AI to progress beyond its current “shiny-new-object” phase, it is essential that governance, ethics, and trust are established. Scoreboards and dashboards can facilitate this process by providing a visual representation of decision-making processes. Furthermore, decisions should be categorized into low-risk, medium-risk, and high-risk levels, with high-risk decisions being routed to human review and approval.
For AI-driven innovations to become mainstream, we must prioritize transparency, accountability, and explainability within these systems. It’s essential that users are able to understand how the AI is making decisions and ensure that these decisions align with organizational values and ethical standards.
