Today’s ‘Wordle’ #1290 Hints, Clues And Answer For Monday, December 30th
The year is coming to a close, and I’m left staring at the screen, trying to make sense of today’s Wordle. But fear not, dear reader, for I have some hints and clues to help you solve it.
As always, my daily routine involves checking out Wordle Bot to analyze my guessing game, and I must say, today was a far easier puzzle than yesterday’s brain twister. Yesterday, the Wordle started trending due to its difficulty, but not so with this one. In fact, thanks to some clever hints and clues, I managed to guess it in just three attempts.
Let me walk you through my process. The game started with LEANT as an opener, which, although unexpected, left me with a manageable 16 options. From there, TRADE cleverly cut that down to a single answer. And with the word “stare” staring back at me (pun intended), I knew exactly where to go.
For those who may be new to Competitive Wordle, I’ll briefly explain how it works. In brief, guessing in 1 is worth 3 points, guessing in 2 is worth 2 points, and so on. If you beat your opponent, you earn 1 point; if you tie, you get 0 points, but if you lose, you receive -1 point.
So, what’s the takeaway? Today, I’m proudly sporting a score of 1 point, having guessed in three attempts. And if you’re wondering how to play or keep track of your scores, check out our comprehensive guide on Competitive Wordle.
Now that we’ve got that covered, let’s dive into today’s etymology lesson. The word “stare” has its roots in Old English, specifically the verb “starian,” which means “to gaze, look fixedly.” This phrase has evolved over time to include Proto-Germanic “starōną,” also meaning “to stare.” The root of this entire process can be traced back to the Proto-Indo-European “*ster-” meaning “to be rigid or stiff.”
In other words, the sense of fixed, intense focus is reflected in this word’s origins. I hope you found today’s puzzle as smooth sailing as I did.
