I am writing to you in desperation as I have just received the devastating news that my 16-year-old son has refused to join me and my husband for our family’s annual New Year’s Eve celebration. When I asked him why, he bluntly told us it was “pretty lame” to be attending a party with his parents.
As I read this text message, tears began streaming down my face as the sting of rejection hit me hard.
