Calo raises $25 million to expand its ready-to-eat meal service beyond the Middle East
Calo, a meal delivery startup based in the United Kingdom, has raised $25 million in funding to expand its ready-to-eat meal service beyond the Middle East. The funds will be used to explore new markets and cater to diverse dietary needs.
Founded by CEO Hussam Al Rawi, Calo is on a mission to revolutionize the way people eat healthy meals. In an exclusive interview with TechCrunch, Al Rawi highlighted that existing services provide meal recommendations but don’t actually deliver meals, which creates a gap in the market for busy professionals seeking convenient and personalized nutrition.
Calo has been successful in expanding its operations across Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, accounting for 85% of the company’s revenue. However, the startup plans to tap into new markets and cater to different segments, including office spaces and residential areas.
The funds raised will also be used to introduce more advanced personalization features for users. Users will be able to specify exact portion sizes of protein, carbs, or fat in their meals, allowing them to further customize their dietary needs.
In the near future, Calo aims to establish retail kiosks for grab-and-go meals at corporate offices and experiment with an on-demand delivery service.
