As I reflect on my incredible journey of 5,000 flawless Trials runs in Destiny 2, it’s astonishing to think that even with record-low player counts, Trials is still thriving. The narrative surrounding the game has been one of despair and decline, but as someone who has played through every meta and content drought, I can confidently say that this isn’t the worst it’s ever felt.
In fact, the opposite seems to be true. The game can survive even these low player counts. What’s needed is a reboot, perhaps with a reworked PvP experience or regular seasonal content in the form of Episode 3 updates and bi-annual DLCs. If done correctly, Trials could continue to be enjoyable for all players.
As I approach my next goal – enjoying a well-deserved break from gaming and streaming until Episode 3 in February – I’m reminded that life takes priority. After hitting the milestone of 4000 flawless carries, it’s time to prioritize my own needs and make space for other aspects of my life.
Looking ahead, my wife and I are set to embark on a new adventure in France for at least a year. While this will mean fewer Trials streams, I still envision myself carrying indefinitely – albeit less frequently and with greater balance.
As for the future of Destiny as a franchise, I remain optimistic about the potential for Destiny 3. The community is special, and a well-crafted sequel could bring back many long-lost fans. It’s been an incredible ride, but it’s essential to acknowledge that this might take time.
One carry story stands out in my mind – carrying a disabled viewer to the Lighthouse earlier this year. It was an arduous journey, but the emotional impact was immense. After sharing the story, our community came together to donate over $1500 to help this family upgrade their gaming setup. That one run has become a symbol of the power of Trials and its incredible community.
As I close out this chapter of my life, I’d like to emphasize that low player counts are not an insurmountable obstacle for Trials. By reinvigorating the PvP experience through revamps and regular content updates, it’s possible for Trials to thrive despite these challenges.
