Now, let’s get to the word “lemur” itself. Did you know it originated from Latin? In Latin, lemures referred to spirits or ghosts of the dead. When European naturalists first encountered these nocturnal primates in Madagascar, they were reminded of the restless spirits from Roman mythology due to their reflective eyes, nocturnal habits, and ghostly calls. This connection led to the name.
The Answer: LEMUR
I’m thrilled to have solved today’s puzzle with the correct answer – LEMUR! It’s essential to acknowledge that lemurs are fascinating primates, primarily found on Madagascar (around 110 different species). Unfortunately, many others have been driven into extinction by other animals and humans. Currently, every species of lemur is listed as endangered.
The journey to reach this solution wasn’t straightforward, but with persistence and luck, I was able to juggle the yellow boxes and snatch another vowel, eventually settling on LEMUR for the win!
