Today’s ‘Wordle’ #1291 Hints, Clues And Answer For Tuesday, December 31st
Happy New Year’s Eve, Wordlers! I hope you’re all having a fantastic time and getting ready to ring in the new year. As for me, I’m here to help you solve today’s Wordle challenge.
Before we dive into the hints, clues, and answer of #1291, let me brief you on how to play Competitive Wordle. If you guess in 1 attempt, you earn 3 points; in 2 attempts, 2 points; in 3 attempts like today, 1 point; in 4 attempts, 0 points; in 5 attempts, -1 point; and if you miss the Wordle, a whopping -3 points. When you beat your opponent, you gain 1 point, while tying yields 0 points, and losing results in -1 point. We’ll be keeping track of our scores daily or per day.
Now, let’s get to today’s puzzle! I had an unusual experience with this Wordle; I used SPIEL as my first guess, which, surprisingly, left me with a staggering 116 possible solutions. Given that limitation, I decided to juggle the yellow boxes and attempt to snatch another vowel. Unfortunately, FLARE came back all yellow again, leaving me only one possible solution – LEMUR.
As it turns out, this Wordle is directly related to our planet’s fascinating primates, the lemurs. These nocturnal creatures are found mainly on the island of Madagascar, where around 110 species can be discovered. Unfortunately, many have been driven into extinction by other animals and humans. Currently, all lemur species are listed as endangered.
It is intriguing that these primates’ names come from Latin, where “lemures” referred to spirits or ghosts of the dead. This association stems from European naturalists’ initial encounters with lemurs in Madagascar. Their reflective eyes, nocturnal habits, and ghostly calls reminded them of restless spirits from Roman mythology, leading to the name.
As we bid adieu to this year, I hope you all have a wonderful time celebrating and that 2023 brings many exciting puzzle-solving opportunities.
