Bill Skarsgard, the actor who played Count Orlock in the recent film adaptation of “Nosferatu”, has expressed his interest in joining the DC Universe (DCU). When asked about the possibility of playing either Bruce Wayne/Batman or the Joker, he enthusiastically responded that he would be open to both roles.
Regarding the role of the Clown Prince of Crime, Skarsgard emphasized that there’s a “really cool f***ing Joker” within him. He also praised Heath Ledger’s iconic performance in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight”, stating it as the best Joker portrayal so far. It appears that Skarsgard is drawn to the complexity and depth of the Joker character, which has been a staple of DC Comics.
As for Bruce Wayne/Batman, Skarsgard didn’t rule out the possibility of playing the iconic superhero. While he didn’t explicitly state his desire to take on the role, he left the door open by stating that he would be interested in exploring the character further.
It’s worth noting that Bill Skarsgard’s comments come at a time when there is no clear indication as to whether Barry Keoghan will reprise his role as the Joker in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman 2”. If Skarsgard were to join the franchise, it would likely be for a different project or iteration.
In recent years, DCU has had a track record of successfully casting actors with little connection to the original roles they’d be playing. Aaron Pierre, who initially appeared in the film Rebel Ridge, was later cast as John Stewart in the DCU. Similarly, Rachel Brosnahan, Milly Alcock, and Jason Momoa were all chosen for their respective characters despite having no prior involvement.
Given this trend, it’s possible that Bill Skarsgard could be considered for either role if his performance as Count Orlock is well-received by fans and critics alike.
