Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000: Everything You Need to Know
In anticipation of a highly keenly-awaited bit of news in January, several images have leaked showing a massive PCB and GPU die for the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 graphics card series. According to reports, the GPU die itself measures 744mm 2, which is significantly larger than its predecessor at 608mm 2. This size increase has sparked concerns among tech commentators regarding the physical dimensions of the PCB and resulting graphics card, including the cooler, and potential compatibility issues with current cases, especially those on the small form factor/mini-ITX side.
The width of the card appears to be the primary concern, which would undoubtedly impact compatibility, particularly as the power connector has also been relocated to the side, further exacerbating clearance issues. This could pose significant problems for users attempting to install these cards in smaller cases.
Furthermore, rumors have circulated regarding a dual-power-connector setup for the RTX 5090 model, with a supposed 600W power draw. However, Videocardz has reported on a comment from Chinese PSU manufacturer Segotep, which suggests that the RTX 5090 will not use dual power connectors and instead rely on a standard 600W 12VPWR connector.
As for naming conventions and availability, it appears that the same scheme will be used for this new series. Six models are expected to launch, but exact time frames and release windows remain unclear. However, based on past Nvidia launches, we can expect reviews for the initial wave of releases (which may include the RTX 5090) in late January or early February, with availability following shortly after.
Following this timeline, it’s possible that the mid-range options like the RTX 5080 could be released a month later, followed by the more budget-friendly options in the middle of 2025.
