Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000: Everything You Need to Know
The highly anticipated Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 series has finally been announced, and it’s packed with exciting new features. In this article, we’ll cover everything you need to know about the latest graphics card offerings from Nvidia.
First off, let’s address the elephant in the room – size. Recent leaks have revealed a massive PCB and GPU die, measuring 744mm² compared to 608mm² for RTX 4000 GPUs. This significant increase has raised concerns among tech commentators about compatibility with current cases, especially those with small form factor/mini-ITX systems.
The width of the card seems to be the main point of contention, which would undoubtedly impact compatibility, particularly in smaller cases where clearance is already a challenge. Forbes
It’s no secret that modern graphics cards are getting larger and more power-hungry by the day, making it increasingly difficult to fit them into smaller cases. This issue has led many enthusiasts to opt for larger ATX or even custom water-cooled solutions.
In other news, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 series will maintain its familiar naming scheme, with six models set to launch simultaneously. While we don’t have exact timeframes or release dates, it’s clear that Nvidia is aiming to provide a more comprehensive and cohesive lineup than before.
Regarding availability, I expect reviews of the initial wave of cards (likely featuring the RTX 5090) to arrive by the end of January or early February. This would be followed by general availability around the same time. In contrast, the RTX 4080 launched a month after its announcement in October 2022.
As for the naming scheme, I expect the launch sequence to follow a similar pattern: first the flagship model (RTX 5090), then the Ti version, and finally the non-Ti variants (5070/5070Ti, 5060/5060Ti).
Stay tuned for my in-depth reviews of these new graphics cards as they become available!
