Today’s NYT Mini Crossword Clues And Answers For Wednesday, January 1st
By Erik Kain
Happy New Year’s everyone! If you’re anything like me, you’re already diving into today’s NYT Mini Crossword puzzle. I’m here to help with some hints and answers.
Before we get started, if you missed yesterday’s puzzle, you can find the answers here: [Forbes Article Link]
As you begin this year, let’s focus on solving this delightful mini crossword. The NYT Mini is a smaller, quicker, and more digestible version of the larger and more challenging NYT Crossword. And don’t worry; it’s free to play without a subscription.
Now, let’s get started!
ACROSS
1. — Month that was the first of the new year in early 3-Down calendars — MARCH
6. — Love so much — ADORE
7. — Maker of Ironman Triathlon watches — TIMEX
8. — Stop — CEASE
9. — Searches (for) — HUNTS DOWN
1— Soccer contest — MATCH
2 — Francophile’s farewell — ADIEU
3 — Like Janus, the god of beginnings — ROMAN
4 — Feature of a cockatoo’s head — CREST
5 — Not-so-nice magic spells — HEXES
To make today’s puzzle easier, it helps to know two things: First, that the New Year used to start in MARCH and second if you know that TIMEX makes Ironman Triathlon watches. Once you have these clues settled, everything else will fall into place nicely.
However, I did not initially know this information, so I had to take a slightly different approach. I had to get MATCH, ROMAN, and HEXES in there before I could even think about figuring out TIMEX. It took me 1:33 to complete the puzzle.
