By Erik Kain Senior Contributor
As we start the new year on a high note, it’s time to tackle today’s NYT Mini Crossword puzzle. If you’re stuck or need help solving this mini crossword, I’ve got you covered. Here are the clues and answers for your reference:
ACROSS 1 — Month that was the first of the new year in early calendars — MARCH
6 — Love so much — ADORE
7 — Maker of Ironman Triathlon watches — TIMEX
8 — Stop — CEASE
9 — Searches (for) — HUNTS DOWN
DOWN
No Down clues were available for today’s puzzle.
Some observations on the puzzle:
Today’s NYT Mini Crossword is a lot easier if you know two key things: First, that the New Year used to start in MARCH and second if you know that TIMEX makes Ironman Triathlon watches. I knew the first but not the second. Most everything else fills in nicely once you have these two clues, of course, but if you don’t, you’ll need to go about it a little differently.
I had to get MATCH, ROMAN and HEXES in there before I could guess TIMEX. This one took me 1:33.
