US telco Lumen says its network is now clear of China’s Salt Typhoon hackers
Lumen, one of at least nine U.S. telecommunications firms reportedly compromised by the Chinese hacking group Salt Typhoon, has announced that it has successfully cleared its network of the malicious actors. In a statement provided to TechCrunch, Lumen spokesperson Mark Molzen confirmed that an independent forensic analysis had been conducted and found no evidence of the hackers remaining on the company’s systems.
As part of this process, Lumen reassured customers that there is “no evidence that customer data was accessed” during the Salt Typhoon breach. The statement came shortly after other major U.S. telecom giants, including AT&T and Verizon, confirmed similar results from their own investigations into the incident.
These findings are a significant step forward in terms of security for Lumen’s customers, as they suggest that the company has taken swift action to eject the Salt Typhoon hackers from its network.
