Are You Driving One Of 2024’s Most-Recalled Vehicles?
As you step into your vehicle and prepare for another day on the road, it’s essential to stay informed about any potential safety issues. With that in mind, I’d like to bring attention to some of the most significant recall campaigns in 2024.
Before diving into the list, let’s touch on an extremely important aspect: not all recalls are created equal. When a manufacturer issues a “Do Not Drive” or “Park Outside” recall, it’s crucial to take immediate action. These types of notices typically involve critical safety defects that can put you and others at risk.
In contrast, more routine issues like faulty warning light labels or water pump glitches might not pose an imminent threat but still deserve prompt attention. As a responsible driver, it’s vital to stay ahead of the curve by checking your vehicle regularly for any outstanding recalls.
To help you do just that, I’ve compiled some of the most significant recall campaigns from 2024:
1. **Tesla** (2.19 million units): This one may be a bit surprising – Tesla owners can now avoid dealership visits for certain issues thanks to over-the-air software updates. However, it’s still crucial to verify your vehicle’s status through NHTSA’s database.
2. **Ford** (1.89 million units): A recall involving intrusive windshield pillar trim has been issued for Explorers.
3. **Honda** (1.69 million units): The automaker is facing a slew of recalls, including issues with potential steering defects in Civic and CR-V models, as well as passenger-weight sensor problems affecting Honda and Acura vehicles.
4. **Stellantis** (1.03 million units): Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Durango, Jeep Compass, Grand Cherokee, Wagoneers, Grand Wagoneer, Ram pickup trucks, and Promaster units are affected by potential backup display issues.
5. **Stellantis** (1.0 million units): Another Stellantis recall targets Ram pickup trucks with faulty antilock brake system control modules.
6. **Honda** (750,000 units): Honda and Acura models may be affected by airbag passenger-weight sensor problems.
7. **Honda** (721,000 units): Accord and Civic models are being recalled due to possible fuel pump leaks.
8. **BMW** (721,000 units): Models across the line might be experiencing water pump glitches.
Remember that it’s your responsibility as an owner or potential buyer to stay informed about any outstanding safety recalls. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) maintains a free and easily searchable database at nhtsa.gov. Simply input your vehicle’s VIN (vehicle information number, usually found on the dashboard’s lower left side) to find out if it’s been recalled for any reason.
In addition to this database, you can also download SaferCar app for Apple or Android devices to be automatically notified of any new issues related to your vehicle. By taking a proactive approach to addressing these recalls, we can all contribute to making the roads safer.
