HBO has made the difficult decision to cancel its satirical comedy series “The Franchise” after just one season. The show, which follows a film crew working on a movie connected to a massive superhero franchise, premiered in November and will not be returning for another season.
According to Deadline, the network has thanked the creative team behind the show, including creators Jon Brown and executive producers Sam Mendes and Armando Iannucci, as well as the “hilarious ensemble of actors.” Despite receiving decent reviews from critics and audiences, the show failed to break into the Top 10 Nielsen rankings during its eight-episode run.
The cancellation comes as HBO is also preparing for a new season of another popular series, “Dune: Prophecy,” which was recently renewed. It’s unclear what this means for the future of other shows on the network.
Patel had the lead role as assistant director and closet nerd Daniel Kumar in the show, while some cast members have previously played superheroes in various Marvel projects.
