HBO’s satire of the superhero genre, The Franchise, has been canceled after a single season. Created by Jon Brown and executive produced by Sam Mendes and Armando Iannucci, the half-hour comedy ended its run in November.
In a statement, HBO thanked the show’s creators, as well as the “hilarious ensemble of actors.” Despite expressing gratitude, the network made it clear that they will not be moving forward with another season. Instead, the company looks forward to collaborating with the talented team on future projects.
The show focused on a film crew working on a film connected to a massive superhero franchise. Himesh Patel played the lead role as assistant director and closet nerd Daniel Kumar, while some of the cast members had previously appeared in Marvel films or TV shows.
