This six-legged lamp might help your kid with their homework
CES 2025 has brought us some interesting and innovative robots so far, but none quite as unusual-looking as Mi-Mo. Despite its Pixar-inspired design, Mi-Mo is not just a cute novelty – it’s actually being touted as a “general purpose AI robot” that could potentially assist with childcare tasks.
According to Jizai, the company behind this creation, Mi-Mo’s primary function would be to serve as a reminder and supervisor for children when doing their homework. It seems that the robot is designed to move around and respond to voice prompts and commands, all thanks to its built-in camera and microphones. Additionally, it runs on multiple large language models that enable its voice and image recognition capabilities.
While we did get to see Mi-Mo in action at CES 2025, unfortunately, it didn’t quite showcase the autonomous abilities one would hope for from a robot designed to help with childcare tasks. Instead, it mostly just shuffled around the show floor and “waved” at passersby – an endearing display nonetheless.
Jizai envisions Mi-Mo as being able to keep tabs on kids while they complete their homework, ensuring that they stay focused and productive. This is a significant aspect of the robot’s potential functionality, especially in today’s world where technology can greatly enhance our lives.
Furthermore, Jizai has also planned for Mi-Mo to be an open platform for developers, researchers, and others to utilize as a base for their own innovative projects. With its modularity allowing users to customize it with bespoke software, additional sensors or hardware attachments, the possibilities seem virtually endless.
In conclusion, Mi-Mo might not have wowed us with any mind-blowing autonomous demonstrations at CES 2025, but its potential uses in childcare and as a platform for innovation are genuinely promising.
